You're used to handling difficult situations.

There are circumstances you experience that most people never encounter. And you deal with them again and again over the course of a career. You’re trained to stay calm when things are chaotic, focus when others panic, and make decisions when the stakes are high. This is part of the job. But the experiences that come with that work don’t always stay contained to the moment.

The stress follows you home.

Sleep and a good night’s rest are harder to come by. You feel more on edge than you used to, or certain incidents replay in your mind when things finally get quiet. Over time, you may notice changes at work as well. Concentration becomes harder, patience runs shorter, and the job that once felt meaningful begins to feel exhausting. You know something needs to change, but you may not know how to talk about it.

Culture often says, “Handle it and move on.

In your line of work, pushing through is the expectation. You deal with the call, clear the scene, and move on to the next one. Over time, that mindset can make it difficult to acknowledge how the work is affecting you. It becomes easy to tell yourself, “This is just part of the job… I should be able to handle it.” But carrying difficult experiences alone eventually takes a toll.

When nothing changes, the pressure builds.

Stress and trauma rarely disappear on their own. Instead, they accumulate. Sleep problems persist, irritability increases, and relationships begin to feel strained. The constant pressure and weight of those experiences start to wear you down. Over time, what once felt manageable can begin to feel draining. And eventually, that combination can leave you feeling burned out and disconnected.

Therapy can help you regain balance.

You've spent years serving others. Therapy is where you get to focus on yourself. It's a space to process difficult experiences, develop strategies that actually work, and start feeling more like yourself again.

U.S. Army Veteran • Retired Fire Captain • 26 Years of Service

Hi, I'm JT.

I spent over two decades serving as a firefighter and paramedic, retiring as a Captain. I’m also a U.S. Army veteran. Through those years, I experienced firsthand the toll that high-stress, high-stakes work can take on a person’s mental and emotional health.

Now, as a Licensed Associate Counselor, I work specifically with first responders, veterans, and medical professionals who are navigating the effects of stress, trauma, and burnout. I use evidence-based approaches, including EMDR, to help my clients process what they’ve been through and move forward with greater clarity and resilience.

I understand this world because I’ve lived in it. That shared experience allows me to connect with my clients in a way that feels genuine, direct, and grounded in real understanding.
